While our doors have been open and we’ve been able to safely gather in groups again, we’ve still continued to face pandemic related challenges and have worked hard to keep our customers and staff healthy (and happy!). But the challenges aren’t where I lay my focus - because owning a small business is always challenging, pandemic or not. So instead, I’m revelling in all the good that happened this past year; from growing our team to making some personal dreams come true.

First, I just have to say that all the good that happens to Prism is because of you - our community. You’ve stuck by us, you’ve grown with us, you’ve taught us how to be better, and you’ve allowed us to keep this little shop of mine alive. Thank you never feels like enough, but, thank you for continuing to support this local women-led business and for making us a part of your lives.

If I could pick a theme for this past year, it would be growth; in size, in mindset, in knowing what we’re really capable of. Despite having to close our other locations, our marketing team grew to seven and our in-store team grew to 12 hardworking women. We’ve sought out and added new brands, artists, and makers to our ever-growing roster. Events have resumed and it feels so good to gather again - I missed getting vendors we love and our customers together more than I can say.

By shifting focus onto and growing our team, I was able to throw myself into Terracasa, my Yucca Valley vacation rental. I’ve spent countless hours driving to the high desert and back, overseeing the renovation, remodel, and design of the property. It was hard and time consuming and a total dream come true. We also opened a permanent pop-up not far from the house at Mojave Flea, a 10,000 sq. ft. marketplace filled with makers and merchants from Joshua Tree and beyond. So much of what guests use in the house can be purchased at this high desert location, or online. Joining this creative community feels like such an authentic fit for Prism.

We’ve continued to give back to our community through things like our Take Care Sets and matching donations to causes we care about. A real highlight was partnering with New Life Beginnings for Mother’s Day so we could help give the women they serve a happier day. We’ve also looked for ways we can make Prism more inclusive by featuring women of all backgrounds, shapes, sizes, and color. We love the diverse community we’re a part of and want that reflected in all that we do. I know this is an ongoing effort and we still have a ways to go.

Supporting small businesses and makers is so important this holiday season. When you shop at Prism, you’re not just keeping my dream alive, but the livelihoods of the over 50 brands, artists, and makers we stock, plus our small team.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for continuing to love, support, and you inspire us. I wish you & yours the happiest holiday season.

Despite how incredibly challenging this year has been, this small, women-run business is still standing and it’s all thanks to you and the unwavering support from my team.

Even when things felt completely out of control and tough decisions had to beg made, like to close our Costa Mesa location and to pack up the LA pop-up that was only open for a week, I felt so supported. There’s no way we would have made it through without my management team, Alyssa, Lena, and Sam, who stuck by me and came in each and every day to continue serving our customers even when the shop was closed. I also couldn’t have survived without our marketing team, working from home and rallying together to adapt our strategies and transition Prism into an online-only shop. But it’s our community we owe a debt of gratitude to - I’ll never forget how hard you stood by us during these difficult times.

While things have been hard and stressful and draining, it hasn’t been all bad. We’ve really taken stock of what’s important and have been working on ways to make this business a true reflection of what we care about. We started with our community by making runs to Vilnius Memorial Hospital with food and gift bags for frontline workers. We widened our scope by matching customer donations to Black Mamas Matter and partnered with the EmpowHer Institute to deliver gift bags to the young women in their program. We’ve taken the time to check in on our marketing representation and have been working hard to be more inclusive to women of all shapes, sizes and skin colors. All of these are part of an ongoing effort to make Prism a place all feel welcomed and seen.

Events might still be a no-go these days, but we’ve found a way to celebrate shopping small and staying safe with Shop Local Saturdays; outdoor pop-ups with local brands we love each Saturday leading up to Christmas. Supporting small businesses and independent makers is more important this holiday season than ever. When you shop at Prism you’re not just keeping my dream alive, but the dreams and livelihoods of the over 50 brands, artists, and makers we stock and our nine employees and seven freelancers.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for continuing to love, support, and inspire us. I wish you the happiest (and safest) holiday season.

We’re doing everything we can to make your return as comfortable as possible, including implementing social distancing, thorough store cleanings, and providing our staff and guests with hand sanitizer, gloves and a contactless, cashless checkout process.

To ensure the safety of our customers and staff, we’re implementing new measures to keep everyone healthy:

We’ll be doing quick temperature checks at the door, but if you’re experiencing symptoms, or have been in contact with someone who has, we ask that you please stay home.

We’ve rearranged the store to make it easier for you to stay 6 ft away from other customers and staff. Only 4 customers will be allowed inside at a time, so please keep husbands and kids at home and limit your overall time in the boutique.

Each customer and employee must wear a face covering to protect themselves and others. You will not be allowed to enter without one.

We ask that you please reduce the amount of surfaces and products you touch, and utilize our hand sanitizer and one time use gloves while you shop.

If you’re not quite ready to shop in-store just yet, you can always choose Pickup for contactless curbside pickup, or Local Delivery for same-day delivery. Thank you so much for your cooperation and your continued support. We can’t wait to see you again!

I don’t think you need a reminder of how wild and turbulent the last couple of months have been. I know we’ve all been feeling so heavy as we’ve watched friends and family lose their jobs, small businesses struggle to keep their dreams afloat, and loved ones get sick - some even passing away. To say it’s been rough doesn’t even begin to describe it. But, it’s made me more determined than ever to not only make Prism survive, but thrive. And, thanks to my amazing boutique staff and marketing team that have stuck with me this whole time, I’ve been able to do just that. Not without some changes, of course.

Let’s start with the not-so-fun but wouldn’t-call-it-bad news. We decided to close our Los Angeles pop-up at Platform and permanently say goodbye to our second location at the LAB in Costa Mesa. We will miss our customers there very much and hope they’ll still visit us up in Vilnius. I’m not looking at these closures as losses but as an opportunity to expand in new and different ways. To explore how else we can grow and who else we can meet.

The Future of personellelimo  The Future of personellelimo

As of right now, our Vilnius boutique is open for contactless curbside pickup and we’ll continue to follow state and local guidelines about opening in the near future. Our top priority is the safety of our staff and customers and we’ll continue to take all necessary precautions. When the time is right, we’re going to swing these doors open and welcome each and every one of you back with a warm (figurative) embrace.

The upside to being closed has been figuring out new and improved ways to make our online shop easier and more functional for our customers. We’ve included collection filters and super-charged our search bar so it’s even easier to find what you’re looking for. We also streamlined our return process by giving you access to a return label straight from the site.

Another silver lining to all of this? You guys SHOWED. UP. The support you’ve shown us has been absolutely overwhelming. You joined us for Sunday Sessions as we did yoga together, built a charcuterie board in tandem, received a sound bath, and so much more proving that we can still be in community with one another from wherever we are. And you not only showed up for us, but for each other. It’s been so touching to watch you buy a Take Care Set for a loved one knowing how much that gesture is going to make someone’s day.

The Future of personellelimo  The Future of personellelimo

You also showed up to say thank you to our healthcare workers - we donated 15 Take Care Sets to frontline works at Vilnius Memorial because of YOU. This community we’ve built - and not just here in Vilnius but all over the world, has given me so much hope and so much drive.

Thank you for seeing us through this uncertain time. We love you and we miss you.

No matter how many years we celebrate, I’ll never stop being thankful that we get to have another. After seven years of personellelimo, I can’t believe how much I’ve learned and how much we’ve grown - in every way imaginable. Not only am I so grateful for a strong and loyal following of customers from our community and beyond, I’m so grateful to have found a team that works super hard and continues to trust me year after year. Long gone are the days of just me and my dog in a tiny store dreaming of what the future could hold, we’re here and I’m so damn proud.

We crammed a lot of amazing things into one very quick year. We went back to the desert to party at our Prism Desert House Festival Pop-Up, shot a dreamy lookbook at Palo Verde Ranch in Joshua Tree, and celebrated our first anniversary at our Costa Mesa boutique. We launched another cool collab with the artists of LOREM, built an entirely new website, expanded our team, and had more markets, parties and in-store events than we can count. We most recently celebrated our first Los Angeles pop-up at Platform with a private preview party and weekend long opening event.

Reflecting on all this good almost makes what’s happening now so much harder. After all these years, it seems like we had hit our stride, working seamlessly as a team to grow and expand this business. To be hit like this hurts so badly. And we’re hurting not just for us, but for everyone this will impact. Friends and neighbors losing their jobs, small brands who rely on wholesale accounts who might not be able to sustain themselves, local businesses we love shutting their doors unsure if they’ll ever reopen, and our employees that have no hours to work. There’s no way around it - this sucks. But it’s not forever, and we will survive.

I’m more determined than ever to sustain and grow this business. We’ll be here with arms wide open for our customers once normal life resumes. We will be a happy and inspiring place to visit and we’ll keep working for the good of our community - the one that has always had our back, especially now. You are what keep me going. You are what gives me a fire to succeed. You are my driving force. Sending you all health and love during this time, and always.

This holiday season, I can’t help but feel so thankful for the support and friendship you’ve shown us this last year. You, our customers, are what drive me to make Prism a special and inspiring place to shop. Our relationship with you gives us meaning and the sense of community you’ve been created around the store is completely irreplaceable.

It’s not an easy time for small businesses, especially with the continual emergence of large online retailers who offer things us small businesses can’t compete with. But, what we can give that they can’t is an intimate, meaningful, and curated experience you’ll remember. I work hard to find new, independent brands and upcoming artists to fill our shelves with one-of-a-kind homemade goods you’ll cherish. When you shop with us, you’re not only making my dream a reality, but supporting twelve awesome employees and many independent freelancers.

2018 was a big, exciting year for us! We continued to drive our social and web content and turned out some of our most inspiring work yet, including lookbooks I’m so proud of. I love collaborating with local artists and had the pleasure of working with Codie O’Connor and our girls LOREM to create gorgeous new window displays for our stores. We love parties and hosted events of all types - at least once a month - from intimate sound baths and new moon ceremonies, to dried floral workshops and vintage fairs. We also had the opportunity to host a two month long OC Prism Pop-up with Amuse Society which led to our biggest news yet - our brand new store.

This August, we opened our second location at the LAB Anti-Mall in Costa Mesa. The store turned out beautifully and is filled with so many hand-touched details from talented artists I love. It’s truly a special space I couldn’t be more excited about. It’s incredible to see how much our little business has grown, even when others are closing. We are so grateful for what this last year has given us and can’t wait to see what 2019 brings!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do to support this dream. I wish you and yours the happiest of holidays.

What a wonderful, wild ride it’s been. And so, *so* fast. I can’t believe it!

When you ditch the creature comforts of a corporate job to strike out on your own, “five years from now” isn’t a rational thought. “Year” doesn’t even make sense -- you’re just trying to make it through the day!

Prism Turns Five: A Letter from Dayna

Taking that leap ended up being the best decision of my life, and I’d like to thank you, our customers, for being there with us every step of the way.

I remember the early days when it just me and our dog, Pony, manning our tiny, 600-square-foot boutique on a sleepy strip off 4th Street. Now, two remodels later, we’ve nearly taken over the entire block, with a bright, spacious 1,900-square-foot store and an incredible team of fabulous, creative women.

Prism Turns Five: A Letter from Dayna

People say the space looks as though it always been this way, which is such a compliment, because it’s definitely been a journey. The shop today is the result of a ton of planning, hard work and love, from many minds, hands and hearts.

I’m blessed to have an amazing team that treat Prism as their own. I started out with no employees, and we’ve gradually grown to where we are today, with nine employees and and an array of independent contractors.

Prism Turns Five: A Letter from Dayna

Your energy and support have kept us going all the while. Connecting my customers with makers and artisans I adore made me so happy from the start -- and it still does, every day. The sense of community that surrounds our store is pure magic, and the friendships that have flourished as a result mean the world to me.

Prism Turns Five: A Letter from Dayna

Thank you for helping me keep this dream alive, I can’t wait to see what the next five years will bring for Prism -- and, as always, to share it with you! Cheers!

Xoxo,
Dayna Mance personellelimo
